CGFC round up Saturday 30th April

With both senior teams sitting out Sunday with Byes, it was left to our juniors to represent the club from U10s to U16s.

The U10s enjoyed their second weekend of games with U10 Green, Gold and Black all in action. Players and coaches alike have enjoyed a fun and enthusiastic start to the season, Under 10’s co-ordinator Glen Springate commenting “We have large participation numbers this year allowing us to field 3 teams which is great, we have lots of new parents getting involved too. Numbers throughout the club this year have increased from previous years which is excellent”.

The U12s through to U16s wrapped up their final weekend of grading games ahead of final squad numbers and players groups being established for the upcoming season:

The U12’s enjoyed a great morning of competitive football at Spring Gully and Strathfieldsaye. A great highlight was the travelling team from Echuca-Moama who against our 12As provided an end to end game of entertaining football challenging all involved.

Both U14 teams were at home this week and were matched up as part of the League testing process.  A good challenge to put the training night friendlies into a formal set up.

The two U16’s teams continued the grading process with trips to Eaglehawk and Kyneton. This gave both teams the chance to further developing their positional understanding. An unfortunate skating accident has sidelined one player but the final starting 11 will be announced this week after a comprehensive player skill analysis.  All players are looking forward to a great season.

Fixtures will be released this week with Castlemaine competing in the following BASL Competitive Junior competitions U12A, U12B, U14A, U14B, U16A and U16B with two teams representing at U14B level.

With barely a week to go till our Small Sided Soccer Friday program starts again there is still time to register. The Fridays kick-off again on the 13th of May and are shaping up to be just as exciting as previous years with all coaches and volunteers looking forward to meeting this years group. The session runs from 4.30-5.30pm with All kids 5-9 welcome with the focus on having fun, learning new skills and hopefully making life-long friends while playing in a team based environment. An update to Senior fixtures this weekend means the Men have another Bye round and their derby with Kyneton will now be later in the season, their next game will be away to Old Trinity on the 15th. The Women do return this weekend for their derby away to Kyneton. Kick-off is 11:15, hopefully the team get to celebrate Mothers day with a win over their local rivals.
