Classic Game of Two Halves

In sunny conditions at Maidstone, the women were hopeful of a competitive display against fourth on the ladder United but Maidstone’s game plan ran to an effective structured pattern and they raced to 6-0 by half time.

The margin would have been greater if not for some excellent aggressive saves made by replacement keeper Rachel West.

In the second half Ruby Huzzey, Kate Forrest and Lyn West battled hard to keep the Maidstone strikers at bay while Sarah McCoombe and Edwina Reid delivered the ball out of the midfield to the running Bridget Woods and Jasmine West .

Cate Parnell and Angela West both had shots at goal late in the half but the Maidstone defence was a well-oiled machine that only conceded three corners for the entire game.

Julie Rudner and Eve Merton both had runs up front but could not penetrate the backline. Pleasingly, Molly Forrest returned from injury and was solid on the wing until soreness caused her to retire.

To the girls credit, there was no more score from the Maidstone outfit in a game of two very different halves; the final result being 6-0.
