The senior men had a hot-day hitout against visiting Drysdale At Soldiers Memorial Park on Sunday, March 22. Division 2 had a 5-2 win, with striker Hugh Feary scoring a brace, captain-coach Jim K. making a welcome return to the pitch and co-coach Gilbert making the smart calls from the shade of the sideline marquee.
The Division 1 men lead early on from a slick goal by youngster Sunday Lam then held that lead for much of the match. Deep into the second half, Drysdale scored twice in 10 minutes after Castlemaine goalkeeper Brendan Connelly was red-carded (somewhat harshly, perhaps) after being deemed to have handled outside his box.
An unexpected handball against a Drysdale defender in the dying minutes of the game gave veteran Maine midfielder Jono Burris the chance to even scores from the penalty spot. Cool as a cucumber, he wrong-footed the Drysdale keeper to give the home team a deserved draw.
